Dear Friends of Longview Chapel,
My husband, Bill, planted a garden again this year. He thought by only putting in three eggplants he would get pretty much what we would eat. Surprise! We have been blessed with an abundance and plenty to share. If you want some, you should ask me if it’s still available.
It’s a reminder to me that we really don’t know when we plant something, really anything, just exactly how much we will grow and harvest.
You may have met our friend Jeff at the second service last Sunday. He is the son of Roy and Darline Haldiman who were part of the Odessa Church that we co-pastored. Roy and Darline were strong leaders of that church, and they were particularly helpful in guiding us as young pastors. They supported and loved us and our kids, especially as we grieved losing my mom. Over the years, Jeff has become somewhat like a little brother to me. And whenever we host him at our house, it always makes me think about all the seeds that Darline and Roy planted. Some of those seeds helped to create the friendship that Jeff and we have today.
Seeds that we plant may seem inconsequential when we plant them and yet if we plant them with hope, love, and prayer, God can do so much with what we have to share.
The Apostle Paul understood that we’re all to plant seeds of faith. It really is a community effort. One of us plants. Another waters. Still another tends the plants and harvests. In all things God gives the growth. Paul shares this in the following scripture:
“I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow.” I Cor 3:6
What kinds of things are we planting and growing this week for God’s kingdom?
