Dear Friends of Longview Chapel,

As we remember Jesus this Holy Week, what are some of the actions he took throughout his life that are most meaningful to you? We certainly think of him giving up his life to be arrested, beaten, shamed, and crucified. It is hard to even begin to imagine the pain he experienced. It is through his willingness to give up his life that we are certain of God’s love, forgiveness, and grace for all who will receive it.

There are so many other actions he took as well:

• When he lived on earth, he chose to live as a traveling preacher and teacher. He had no home of his own or great wealth or worldly status.

• He chose to speak and care for people like lepers, tax collectors, the sick, the poor, the orphaned, the sinners (which is everyone).

• He taught people that we are God’s daughters and sons, and that we are to be an active part in creating God’s Kingdom here on earth as it is in heaven.

• He brought healing and hope to those who needed it.

• He taught us to love our enemies and to bless those who persecute us.

• He used stories to help people learn God’s ways – things like loving our neighbor, forgiveness, faithfulness, and being prepared.

• He continued to love and serve even his betrayer.

• He taught us the Kingdom of God is within us.

• What other actions that Jesus did come to your mind?

James 1:22 reads: “But be doers of the word and not merely hearers who deceive themselves.” NRSVUE

As we take actions of faith this week, may we especially do so to honor him. How are our actions inspired by his life, death, and resurrection?

Blessed Holy Week to each of you,

Pastor Donna
