Dear Friends of Longview Chapel,

This past Sunday, Ashley Davis created several games the youth and I played that helped us to give and receive encouragement.

Perhaps some of you have played freeze tag before. To unfreeze someone, you had to touch them and say “God loves you and I love you.” There were motions involved too, so what sounds simple took some intentionality.

In another game, we listened to music and walked around the room. We paired up with whoever was closest to us and shared a word of encouragement. Some of these went from talking about the person’s strengths, being a good friend, to saying they sang well or they had great eyes and some others I didn’t hear. It took each of us a bit to really look at the person we were paired with and to think of a way to encourage that person specifically, not just in a general way.

Encouraging others to pursue their faith and to blossom is a part of our commitment as we help each other to grow in faith. Amazingly, when we encourage someone, it may be just the thing that inspires us to move forward in faith, too.

Who can you encourage today? God may just be asking you to be God’s voice.

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” Hebrews 10:24-25

See you Sunday!
