Dear Friends of the Chapel,

It’s Monday afternoon, and I have to laugh at how many of you have been talking to me about being “the salt of the earth” and being it! You have been diving into Matthew 5:13-20 that we studied during Sunday’s worship. There is a reason Jesus taught with metaphors and stories. People, like you and me, remember them!

One of the Bible stories that teaches us about the importance of being salt in whatever situation we are in is the story of the little boy who brought the five loaves and two fish to Jesus, in John 6:1-13. This little boy again has no name. As a child, he has no authority or power. What he does have is the saltiness to believe that if he gave what he had Jesus and others would do the rest. Now, how many adults do you imagine had traveled from home and also had food in their bags, but didn’t have the faith or saltiness to dare to believe what they had could make a difference? I am guessing many of them did.

This boy’s saltiness undoubtedly began a miracle of multiplication. What kind of saltiness is God drawing you and me and this congregation to share?

Being the Salt with You,
Pastor Donna
