Special Message for the Week
This past weekend some of you I know were without power. Bill and I had our power out from Saturday morning until about 1 a.m. Monday. Odd how used to having simple things like heat and lights and refrigeration, etc. we are.
One of our friends was without until Tuesday. They chose to stay home evenings and nights with their dogs. (We spent the nights at my sister’s house.) My friend commented that there were so many decisions she had to make that normally wouldn’t even be a question. And when she got to their 4o some degree house in the evening, she just wanted to curl up and do nothing.
As I have thought about this, and listened to stories of people being stuck in their homes, it has really caused me to pray more for those who face these issues many days, if not every day. People who do not have homes, or struggle to pay utilities. People who are unable to readily leave their homes because of disabilities. People who struggle to find enough food to feed their families. People who worry about their safety. Etc.
Jesus clearly stood with the poor, and with those others cast out. How am I doing at that? How are we doing at that?
Matthew 25:31-46 is worth a reread as it reminds us just how important to God all people are. In verse 25:40 in the NIV it reads:
4 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
As we live and pray and share from what we have may we always be mindful that Jesus sees through the eyes and hearts of those we meet.
- For all the times we have gotten this message right – Thanks be to God!
- For all the times we have missed opportunities – God forgive us!
- For all the opportunities to serve and share we will have – Open our eyes and hearts God!
Remember who you are and Whose you are!
