*Prayerfully listen to   The River by Brian Doerksen at

Sing along if you are led to do so.

*Prayerfully remember your own baptism or confirmation. Where were you?  Who was there? How did you make the decision to be baptized or confirmed? As you think about your baptism, what is the significance of it now to you in your faith?

*Talk to someone else in your family or friends about their baptism. Ask them some of the above questions.

*Read Luke 3. What ideas or questions does it raise for you? As you read Luke 3:16:

John answered them all, saying, "I baptize you with water, but he who is mightier than I is coming, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.

think about what it means to be baptized with the Holy Spirit and with fire.

Dear Parents and Teens,

Are you looking for volunteer hours this summer? Are you looking for an awesome experience where you help others, have fun, meet youth from around the country and experience God together?

Then Longview Chapel has an opportunity for you this summer as we head to Springfield, MO June 24-28 with the national Youth Disciples Mission Trip! We’ll be sleeping in real beds (a big deal if you’ve slept on the floor before), have fun events each night following worship and get to build memories and make friends from all over the country.

If you want to learn more, go to

Cost for the trip is $350. Longview Chapel has budgeted funds and the youth have done additional fund raisers to help with tuition and transportation. Your cost is $150.

What do you need to do to get involved?

  • Attend a Bible Study and Mission Trip Exploration on Sunday, January 13, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The alternate date if weather makes us cancel is Sunday, January 20, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. We will have some pizza and you’ll have a chance to hear from youth who have had fun faith building experiences on previous mission trips, explore some Bible verses together and get your questions answered. If you think you’d like to bring a friend with you on the mission trip, we ask that you bring them to this meeting too!
  • Bring your registration form and $75 deposit to church no later than February 15.
  • Participate in some planning gatherings.
  • Get excited! This is going to be a memorable trip! Following the trip, we’ll be setting a date when photos and experiences can be shared in worship. Helping the congregation experience the trip through your eyes gives them a gift too!
