Children's ministry director - melissa hill

I am so excited and honored to be the Children’s Ministry Director at the Chapel. I was born and raised in Kansas City, mostly in Kansas City, Kansas, where I attended Trinity Community Church in my youth and where my mom still attends.

I have been in Children’s Ministry as a volunteer and as a paid staff member for over 10 years. I have a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Rockhurst University and I am currently in my 4th year teaching 2nd grade for Troost Elementary School in Kansas City, Missouri. Every day that I get to spend influencing children to embrace God’s principals of love and kindness to others I consider to be a blessing.

I have two daughters Cierra and Layla. Cierra is 25 and works as a restaurant manager in Leawood. Layla is 11 and attends school in Gardner, Kansas. Layla loves being a part of the Chapel too!

My strengths are getting things done with a multitude of things on the list, creativity, and leadership. I am not the best at remembering names, so please grant me some grace!

Ask me any questions, let me know any ideas or concerns! I want to make our Children’s Ministry thriving and prosperous! I can’t wait to meet and to fall in love with your children.

“Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6

I have the blessing of being raised in a big, strong, loving, Christian family. The passion of my life is my Faith. Having served congregations for more than 30 years, I hold Master’s degrees in both Church Music and Divinity with an undergraduate degree in Music Education/Music Therapy. I am ordained as a Minister through the American Baptist denomination, and most of my ministerial experience is working directly with Children and Youth.

I love sports, camping, nature, art, painting, science, music, research, computers, sewing, missions, sail boating, and horseback riding. I work in surgery as a Surgical Technologist and hold a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing.

Youth have an important voice. I am here to help find that voice and explore the depths of the unique and wonderful person God created you to be. Along the way, we will discover ways to communicate your story to your family, your peers, your community and the world. I’ll walk beside you as you find out how greatly you are adored by God who made us all.
